[ Brian + Denise Wedding ]

On December 4th, 2011 we headed out to the beautiful city of Carlsbad to photograph Brian and Denise's wedding. Both the ceremony and reception took place at the Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort where the weather was nice and breezy. This was our first time meeting Brian and Denise but it was not long before we hit it off and were having a fun time taking photos. It's always nice to hear the story of how couples meet. These two met while taking their dogs to a local dog park, how cool is that! We thank you both for having us out for your big day, and looking forward to seeing you again sometime! Congrats!

[ Sunset Hills -- Redlands, CA ]

A realtor from Coldwell Banker in Corona Del Mar contacted us recently to photograph a home he is putting up for sell in Redlands, CA. He mentioned his desire to showcase that the house had nice sunset views from various parts of the property, as well as a couple shots at dusk. To get the best possible light for both settings, we started the photo shoot an hour before sunset. Upon arrival, we noticed the front of the house had some nice light hitting it, and the sunset coming over the hill was fairly visible, so we took these shots:

Then we moved on into the house for some interior photos. We like to utilize the natural light that is coming into the house, but will often use a fill that comes from lights we bring to the shoot, or an off camera flash. We find it best to use a continuous light source rather than flash when working with HDR photos. Here are a few interior shots as examples:

One of the keys to shooting interiors is to make sure the lines of the room are straight. We usually line up our frame using walls, cabinets, or doorways.

After taking photos of most of the interior, we noticed that the sun was not far from setting, and so we went back outside to try to capture the best angles that showed the view:

After the sun is no longer visible, there is still about 20 minutes or so of light left, so we headed back into the house for more interior photos. When shooting photos at this time of day, timing is everything. It is important to keep a close eye on the falling sunset and to map out your shots.

Finally, we headed back outside to set up for the dusk photos. We set up power to the lights, and frame the shot while waiting for that perfect time to capture the photo. There is usually only about a 15 minute window of having that nice blue dusk sky before the it turns completely black, so the key is to move quick.

For this particular shot of the front of the home at dusk, two continuous lights were used. The lights were moved a couple of times to different areas, and later brushed in using Photoshop to cover the entire scene. Sometimes the exposure is long enough to brush the light in on the spot, which was the case for the pool photo.

Garrett & Lindsey were married recently at the Serendipity Garden in Oak Glen, California. It was a beautiful day, and you'll see from the pictures to follow, everyone had a fun time celebrating this couple's Big Day. One of the cool things about the wedding was that it somewhat matched the mountain-camping theme we went for during our engagement session at the beginning of Summer. The last time we got together with Randy and Alma was during their engagement photo session at Cal Poly last winter. We had so much fun and I knew their wedding was going to be a blast! This couple photographs so well together, and you can see the love between them in each shot.

The first few stops during the day were all within 5 minutes of each other, which allowed for us to have plenty of time with both the groom and the bride getting ready. It always plays in the photographer's favor when the bride and groom are getting ready close by.

During the time Alma was getting here make-up done, we had a good amount of time with the dress, shoes and other accessories. Got to try some different things, lots to choose from at this house!

We have taken pictures of many different homes, working with companies such as Prudential, Coldwell-Banker, Surterre Properties, HOM, and Canaday Group, covering most of Southern California. We have recently photographed some beautiful homes out in Riverside County. This particular home on Kingdom Drive was around 6,400 square feet, with 5 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, 2 guesthouses, a pool house with built-in Sauna to name just a few features. The house was filled with details in each part of the home with almost everything from the lighting to the walls custom built. Below are some photos from the photo session:

Randy and Alma met back when they were in High School. Randy was going to Damien, and Alma was not to far away at St. Lucys. They went their separate ways for a few years, but reconnected in college through mutual friends and have had an awesome relationship ever since!
Being that they rekindled their relationship at Cal Poly Pomona, we thought it would be fun to take some photos of them around the campus. We couldn't have picked a better day, the weather and light was perfect. They were such a pleasure to shoot, and so natural in front of the camera! Definitely looking forward to capturing their big day this coming fall!

Shooting for Riviera Magazine is always a great experience for us. We often get out to some of the best events in Orange County when we photograph for the "Scene" sections, but we also have the opportunity to shoot Riviera's special sections. Here are a few images we did for the Burger Challenge where people can vote for their favorite burger:

To create these images, we used available window lighting with a white card to balance the light and fill the shadows. We used a Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro lens on a Canon EOS 1ds Mark III to capture the images. The 100mm is a must have lens for this type of work. Here are a couple of behind the scenes shots that show how the photos were created:

[ Under the Sea ] Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Even when we're not on assignment, we try to stay sharp by giving ourselves photographic challenges. On a recent trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the challenge was to simply capture images that showed the beauty of this under water world. Going in it was pretty obvious that the primary obstacle would be the glass tanks. One way to avoid the ugly reflections when taking pictures through glass is to use a Polarizing filter. The problem with using one however is that it lets less light into the camera which is not good for low light photography indoors, especially with no tripod and moving subjects. The better solution is to place the lens directly against the glass and avoid using a flash. With beautiful available light and amazing colors, we attached a 24-70 f/2.8 macro lens to a Canon 1Ds Mark III and shot away. Here are the images:

Photographing 3-year old Kylee Maris was not only a blast, it was a workout! She was so happy and full of energy, she ran around almost the whole time! We had fun trying to keep up with her. Kylee's mom provided 3 of the cutest little outfits for the photo shoot. We also thought it would be fun to incorporate balloons into some of the shots, which worked out really well with one of the outfits. Below are some of the images from the day:

It is officially wedding season and we are excited for all the weddings that are coming up within the next few months. Julius and Luz recently celebrated their big day with a wedding theme of "The Vine." Their theme was inspired by what Jesus says in John 15, "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." Such a great theme, and their ceremony truly glorified Christ. They even had an invitation for those in their family and friends to accept Jesus during their wedding ceremony.
With the theme of The Vine in mind, we shot our formal portraits at a nearby winery. Their wedding ceremony and reception were at Mosaic Church in Chino. We had an amazing time as these two are such a fun couple to be around! Below are some photos from the day:

[ Summer Drink Tour ]

One of the funnest shoots of this year was getting the opportunity to go to some of Orange County's best dining spots to shoot their Signature Drinks for Riviera Magazine. The challenge of these shoots was to not only to accurately show how beautiful the drinks are, but to get each shot done in under 30 minutes! We were pressed for time in getting the photos by the deadline so we had to schedule the 10 restaurants in a small time window over 2 days. That left no time for elaborate lighting setups so we stuck to a basic lighting formula. We used daylight as the primary light source, a white card to fill, and a battery powered light panel LED light to add the last bit of fill. Here's what we came up with:

We were so happy when our friend Charlie told us that he and his wonderful girlfriend Julie were engaged. We were fortunate enough to get to know Charlie from serving at the Media Ministry at Faith Community Church in West Covina and we are honored that he and Julie asked us to photograph their upcoming wedding.
In the midst of a crazy week of commercial and editorial shoots (we'll post those soon), we were excited to head over to Newport Beach to shoot their engagement photos. Most of the time it's a bit of a challenge getting the man to be comfortable and open in the photos. Not with Charlie, all we had to do was put him and Julie in a situation and shoot. It's wonderful to see two people so in love and not afraid to show it. Their happiness and comfort in front of the camera made for some great pictures:

We're always looking for ways to make things interesting with our photography. Sometimes we use different lenses, unique angles, photoshop manipulation, or a combination of those techniques to achieve this. We always prepare for a shoot by asking ourselves, "What approach and which tools to we need to capture what our client wants?". Once we've determined that, we then ask ourselves, "How can we see this differently and what elements can we add?". For this HBO Boxing event at Home Depot Center, we decided to use a combination of wide angle lenses, low angles, and some edgy photoshop work. These are some of the images:

Club Life in Hollywood had its grand opening celebration last Friday, and I had the privilege of being a part of the event. Club Life is a Christ-centered club hosted by King FM Radio and features live performances, dancing, giveaways, and music by DJ Triune. The event took place at Christian clothing company JIM (Jesus In Me) Unlimted, which is located directly across the street from Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles on Pico Blvd. King FM put to together a 'red carpet' style photo booth and was nice enough to put the Mora Photography logo on their banner, it was amazing! I even went on the other side of the camera for a couple Red Carpet shots (see below). We were excited to get an email from our good friends Norman and Adriana to shoot their wedding and engagement photos. With their wedding coming up in October of this year, they wanted an engagement shoot early enough to send out Save the Date photos to their friends and family. The shoot was a blast. They're both extremely photogenic and Norman gave Derrick Zoolander a run for his money with his version of "Blue Steel" it was hilarious. Posting blogs of children is always a difficult task, because all of the pictures look cute. This was the case with Chloe's photos. We wanted to post them all, but we were able to narrow them down to just 10. Chloe's mom is good friends with Riley's mom (see Riley's photos below) who recommended us. Part of what made this shoot unique is that Chloe recently celebrated her baptism. In addition to on-location natural light shots, Chloe's parents wanted Mora Photography to capture some studio style photos of Chloe in her baptism gown. One cool thing about the gown is that it was custom made by Chloe's aunt, amazing! Here are some of our favorites from the day:

As a gift to her graduating students, our friend Chara Nicole of Open Box Designs hired us snap a few portraits of her Certified Event Planner & Designer class. Chara wanted each student to have a recent portrait that the graduates could use as they begin to market themselves to prospective clients. In addition to each portrait, we decided to include a Photo Booth series as a keepsake for each graduate to remember the class & Mora Photography. Not only have Photo Booths gained popularity at weddings, but they have also become popular at corporate parties, Birthday's, Bah/Bar Mitzvahs, and many other events. While we don't offer the kind of stand alone booth that you'd see at a carnival or fair, we do offer a simple, small photo set which can do the same thing. [ Billboard Ready ]

As the official photography provider to the Los Angeles Galaxy Soccer Club, we are always looking for ways to distinguish the photography and keep it at the highest level. A majority of sports photography is done with cameras that have the ability to rapidly capture a sequence of images, such as the Nikon D3s and Canon EOS Mark II & III. The draw back with those cameras is that their image quality is not as high as slower studio cameras. Studio cameras such as the Nikon D3X & Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III, in contrast, do not capture rapid image sequences as well as sports cameras. In 2008 we decided to use the 21 megapixel 1Ds Mark III to photograph game action. Although it was a steep investment (but what camera gear isn't these days), it allowed us to the ability to reproduce beautiful high resolution images at very large print sizes, such as billboards. Recently the Galaxy used one of our high quality action images to create billboard advertisements around Los Angeles.

The Image Used:

Although it requires much more skill to capture peak action at a slower frame rate, our preference is and will always be, to photograph events with the highest quality equipment. For more information about the Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III, please visit Canon's Website.

[ Wonderland ]

One of our favorite clients to work with is Hollywood & Highland. They have some of the most interesting fan events and recently they asked us to come out and capture some moments from the "Alice in Wonderland Ultimate Fan Event". Since this was a big event with the entire cast, there were lots of moments we needed to capture, including the entire cast of this blockbuster movie all together. Here are a few of the moments from the event.

We always enjoy the opportunity the work with friends & family when they need photos. Recently our friend Nicole reached out to us to help her get some new/recent photos for her acting portfolio. In addition to getting her some new basic head shots, we mixed in some non-traditional stuff.

Mora Photography recently shot pictures of DJ Triune for his new website and the radio show that he works with (www.kingfmradio.com). The cool things about shooting Disk Jockeys is that many of them have their own event lighting gear, which can be great to use in the photos. In doing the shoot, DJ Triune wanted three main things: 1) to incorporate his colored lights 2) to allow space for the text of his name 3) to look "flashly." We had a fun time experimenting with some of his event lights and were able to capture exactly what he was looking for. The color of the lights we ended up going with complimented the color theme of his website nicely (www.christstarrent.com) :

Some photographers choose to focus their careers on shooting only a particular subject such as weddings, portraits, products, architectural, etc. We are open minded and choose to shoot anything and everything that comes our way, the exception being boudoir portraits. Our normal year in photography will include shooting sports, fashion, products, weddings, family portraits, headshots, birthday parties, marketing campaigns, store openings, the list goes on and on. This makes for some great opportunities to grow and expand in our photography. Every here and there we'll get someone who wants us to shoot their high school senior photos. Recently, a young man by the name of Nelson asked Mora Photography to snap some fun shots of him as he skateboarded around the neighborhood. It was a blast hanging out taking photos of Nelson. Over the past few years we have had the opportunity of taking photos of one of our favorite Christian musicians/worship leaders, Paul Stephens. It has been a great privilege for us to get to know Paul and call him one of our friends. He's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, he loves the Lord, and is an amazing talent. We connected with Phil and his wife Melanie through our service with King FM Radio, a new southern California radio show that plays Christian hip-hop (www.kingfmradio.com). We have had the privilege of taking pictures at events and concerts for the radio team. Phil and Melanie have such a fun family and we had a great time taking their family photos!

We are pleased to announce that EA Sports is currently using one of our images of US Soccer and LA Galaxy Captain Landon Donovan in thier North America television ad for FIFA 10. With over 1.7 million sales in the 1st week, more than 10 million gaming sessions have been played online, and over 155,000 gamers playing online simultaneously during peak playing hours. Although we are disappointed that Landon is not on the game cover, we are excited to have our work back in a national commercial.
